SECURITY is to be improved at 58 blocks of flats owned by St Helens Council as part of an anti-crime initiative.
The Housing Committee has approved the spending of £550,000 on the installation of door entry systems.
The system will be installed at 20 blocks of flats at Pollitt Crescent/ Pendlebury Street on the Four Acre estate at West Sutton; 16 blocks at Oakley Avenue and Recreation Drive, Billinge; 13 blocks at Carnegie Crescent and Watery Lane, Sutton; and nine blocks at Ashurst Drive/ Billinge Crescent, Blackbrook.
This in support of initiatives being taken locally under the Crime and Disorder Act and especially through the Community Action Team which is already in operation at Four Acre but will move on to other parts of the borough as it bids to reduce the incidence of crime recorded by the police and other agencies involved in the scheme.
The council has also earmarked another £200,000 to back projects linked to the CAT initiative.
