MOST men settle for the pipe and slippers or perhaps a spot of gentle gardening when they reach the age of 70 - but not Kenneth Taylor.

For the sprightly pensioner from Gaskell Street, Parr, has just signed on to do a parachute jump for charity!

Kenneth, who is father to 10 stepchildren and also has nine grandchildren, is the oldest person in the North West to attempt the jump for the Cancer Research Campaign and had to obtain written permission from his doctor before being allowed to do it. But now he's raring to go and has already started to collect sponsorship as he needs to raise at least £320 before he can carry out the jump. He said: "My wife Anne thinks I'm absolutely crackers and so do the rest of the family. But I want to do it and I hope people will help by sponsoring me as much as possible. I have already been in touch with some local businesses and a lot of old collegeagues at BICC in Prescot where I for more than 40 years."

And David Toomer, a spokesman for the Cancer Research Campaign, told the Star: "Kenneth is certainly the oldest person in the North West area to do the parachute jump."

IF you would like to help Kenneth by sponsoring his appeal, he can be contacted on 605637.
