A TEAM of cricketers had a close shave for charity.
The entire Baxenden team had their heads trimmed back to the bone in the changing rooms before they played Earby on Saturday, by players' wives Beverly Bulcock and Beverley Watson.
Mark Rishton, Peter Usher, David Usher, Ronnie Davis, John Sudworth, Glyn Hargreaves, Ian Watson, Steven Bulcock, David Clegg, Andrew Holroyd, and James Capstick all decided to join in.
Mark Rishton explained: "We got our heads shaved to raise money for my friend Mark Laffy's family, as he died in May this year after a short illness. He was a good friend of mine, and we wanted to raise money so that his wife Sharon, and daughters Holly, 8, and Mia, 2, could go on holiday to Florida."
"We are hoping to raise £500 altogether, which works out at about £50 a head. Mark liked to help everyone else, and he used to organise lots of fund raising events himself, so I wanted to do something to help his family."
Mark Laffy, of Haslingden, was 36 when he died. For six years he was manager of Clarence who play in the Accrington and District Football Combination, whilst Mark Rishton was secretary.
