A CANCER victim's daughter has handed over £1,000 to the East Lancashire Hospice Appeal after organising a big charity event.

Natalie McMillan, 34, of Rough Lee Road, Accrington, organised it in memory of her mother Ann Elizabeth McMillan, who died of cancer aged 54, at the East Lancashire Hospice in April this year.

The event was held at Oswaldtwistle and Church Conservative Club, and included a raffle and bingo.

Natalie's brother Anthony, 33 joined in the fund raising, by playing punk and new wave songs with his band, "Nobody's Heroes", which includes Bryn Frankland, Chris Pate, and Gary Fielding, who are all from Oswaldtwistle.

Natalie presented a £1,000 cheque to Steve Pitlock, committee member at East Lancashire Hospice, at the Hare and Hounds pub on Saturday night.

There was also a raffle which has raised £250 for the Royal Preston Hospital.

The £1.3 million appeal has been set up to raise money for new day care facilities at the Blackburn hospice. Natalie said she wanted to thank Tony Alveston and David Baron, who compered the night, landlord Clarry Holmes and landlady Anne Boulton, as well as the steward and stewardess at Oswaldtwistle and Church Conservative Club and family and friends for coming, especially her uncle Brian McMillan and auntie Shirley McMillan for helping out.

She added: "East Lancashire Hospice, especially nurse Tina, have been wonderful to my mum and to my family. My mum will always be remembered."

Natalie's father Peter, 54, also took part in the fund-raising event. The couple were married for 34 years.
