BLACKBURN-based brewery Daniel Thwaites is banging the drum for a local brass band after coming up with 500 notes.

The brewery's Charitable Trust has handed over £500 to Clitheroe Town Band to buy a new drum kit and cymbals.

The group disbanded more than 30 years ago but has been resurrected with the help of former Clitheroe Mayor John McGowan and now 30 musicians aged between 12 and 70 are enjoying regular rehearsals at the town's King's centre.

Mr McGowan said: "The assistance from Thwaites represents a major boost to our funding.

"Musical instruments don't come cheap but thankfully the brewery has stepped in to lend us a hand."

The trust's Jill Hargreaves said: "To be able to give this sort of assistance to such a worthy initiative is very rewarding. Long may the musicians play on."
