VISITORS to Burnley are being offered the chance to enjoy cruises along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to learn more about the area's industrial heritage and pick up a bargain at the same time.
Over the next two Saturdays the Marton Emperor canal boat, normally based at Foulridge Wharf, will be cruising from Burnley Wharf along the 'straight mile' through the town centre on a 75-minutes return trip.
There will also be other cruises to Barden Mill where passengers will be able to spend an hour shopping before returning to the wharf and a short trip from Barden Mill towards Pendle and back.
"We are frequently asked if people can go for trips along the canal and they are very disappointed when told there are none available," said Jacqueline Whittaker, tourism development officer with Initiative Burnley, the consortium of public, business, and community groups.
"These two days will give people a taster of what will hopefully become a regular event next year."
Tickets are available from Burnley Tourist Information Centre on 01282 455485 or on the day, 30 minutes before departure.
