A COMPANY planning a multi-million pound move has announced it is set to take on 60 new staff over the next few months.

Simonstone based Direct Courier Services will move to a brand-new purpose-built site in three months time.

And the rapidly expanding firm has revealed surging demand for its services and new contracts has forced it to move into the job market.

The haulage firm has also been steadily increasing the size of fleet of vehicles to cope with the ever growing demand for its services in recent years.

The fleet of delivery vans and wagons has tripled from around 40 to more than 100 in the last three years.

The company has also won an industry award which will mean it can bid for even more lucrative contracts from bigger firms and the public sector.

Direct Courier Services has its headquarters in East Lancashire and a depot in Manchester but is poised to open for business in Birmingham.

The new office will mean an extra 25 staff on top of the 60 set to be taken on in East Lancashire.

The new headquarters and district office will also mean the fleet will have to be expanded even further over the next couple of years.

Sales manager Ian Walker said: "Things are looking very promising for the company at the moment and business is certainly booming.

"Because we have the new standard and because our drivers are trained to a very high standard, which includes the licence to carry hazardous goods and aviation security training, we are now one of the most successful and largest same day delivery services in the north."
