GED Furey's dream of another Lombard Grand Final victory to match his achievement of three years ago, came to an end this week when the Pleasington pro and 13-handicapper Ralph Scholey were pushed into runner-up spot by David Brunton and Andrew Fairlie of Ringway, Altrincham in the regional finals at Hesketh.
The Blackburn pair fired a seven-under-par 65 but were pipped by a single shot.
"Ralph and I had a super day," said Furey. "From past experience you know that even a score of seven under may not win the day."
BLACKBURN'S Tony Jackson cruised through to the third round of the English Amateur Championship at St Mellion, Cornwall yesterday.
Jackson clinched an impressive 6 and 5 second round victory over G Finch (Stoke Poges) after having had a first round walkover against teenager Zane Scotland who had qualified for the Open at Carnoustie a fortnight ago.
