THE clock is ticking for Burnley darts captain Jimmy Tricket. For Jimmy has one last chance to retain Burnley Miners WMC spot at the top of the darting tree ... and he knows time is fast running out.
With one game remaining in the Burnley and District Darts League, the Burnley outfit must defeat high-flying Glen View of Todmorden tomorrow night to take back the premier league trophy.
But for Jimmy it is a question of pride. He has been playing with the Miners for the last seven years - the club have had exactly the same team for the last six - and he has alternated the captaincy with fellow darter Bob Sawley throughout.
He led the team to a runners up spot two years back but Bob went one better last term, leading them to the championship title. This time around Jimmy has already missed one opportunity to clinch it, and the entire season hinges on just one game.
"Jimmy and I have shared the role for years, with the other taking the vice captaincy chair on alternate years," says Bob. "This league is widely regarded as the strongest darts league in the area, so it's a real honour to come out on top.
"We've been doing well all season and could have sealed it last week against the General Havelock, but we just bubbled at the last minute and the whole thing now rests on tomorrow night."
