CARL Fogarty has sounded a rare note of caution in the build-up to his showpiece World Superbike Championship round at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Around 100,000 Fogarty fans are expected in Kent to worship their hero as he bids to extend a 49-point lead over Ducati team-mate Troy Corser.

But, while Fogarty would like nothing more than to delight those supporters with a double win, he admits there is an awful lot of rubber to burn in the remaining five rounds before he can contemplate celebrate an amazing fourth world title.

And the need to protect that points advantage will prevent Fogarty from getting carried away by the occasion.

He said: "It's England and the whole crowd want to see me win so it makes me want to go out and push that little bit harder than I would anywhere else.

"At the same time I have got to think about the championship and worry where Corser is.

"There are other things involved whereas last year I had to win. This year there are other things to consider.

"It's going to be hard when I see that many people with that many Foggy T-shirts and flags. But I've done it long enough and been in this situation many times before."

Fogarty is adamant that the title is still up for grabs and his crash in Germany, when he was comfortably leading, has served to emphasise his vulnerability.

"I'm still kicking myself for throwing 25 points away in Germany. If I lose the championship by anything more than 24 points I will look back at that race.

"It's nowhere near over. I'm sure Troy still thinks he has a chance of the title. There are so many points still up for grabs. There are 10 races to go."
