AFTER watching a mechanical sweeper cleaning the road thoroughly the other morning and only a few hours later, seeing rubbish blowing about again, I got an idea.
Why doesn't our local council, as part of its summer entertainments programme, organise a hare and hounds race?
The groundwork for such an event already exists - a liberal trail of paper is scattered about the streets from the outskirts into the town centre, where the race would end. Only hounds would be needed as the hares' work is already done.
If the competitors were also given a pointed stick and a sack there could be prizes for speed or most litter collected.
