SIMON Bissell, pictured, won gold and silver medals at the North of England championships last weekend.
Thirteen-year-old Simon, of Burnley AC, won the Under-15s discus with a throw of 43:60, then beat his personal best in the hammer by a massive four metres, recording 49:50, to take silver, just half-a-metre behind the country's top ranked thrower.
The previous week, Simon had set three PBs in the shot, discus and hammer in the McDonald's League fixture at Hull.
Although he is only in the bottom year of the Under-15s, he has been invited to throw the hammer for Lancashire Under-17s in the Inter-Counties.
He is also selected for the shot, where he will compete in the Under-15s. The fixture has no discus event.
