LEIGH'S Spinning Jenny is coming home.
The 12 square foot renovated tiled plaque, which hung for almost 80 years above a shop in Spinning Jenny Street, will be unveiled in its new home in the main foyer of Leigh Town Hall at the start of the town's centenary celebrations.
Leigh Soroptimists raised the £3,000 needed to bring the work back to its original condition.
Deputy Leader of Wigan Council, Cllr Tom Sherratt, who will unveil the historic plaque, next Thursday (6.30pm) said: "It has taken a long time to get Jenny back where people can see her.
"But she has always been an important part of the town's history and heritage and we are grateful to the Soroptimists for their leading role in raising the necessary money."
The plaque was put into storage almost 10 years ago when shops at the site were demolished to make way for the new bus station.
