I WAS present at the wedding party held in Greenmount on Saturday, July 17, which was the subject of letters in the Bury Times (July 23) The nature of these events does present noise problems, wherever they are held.
In Greenmount we are subject to noise from many surrounding sources. The army rifle range at Hawkshaw sometimes makes excessive noise; Tottington Band and the church bells can be heard occasionally; even the occasional clap at Greenmount Cricket Club sometimes upsets the peace of a summer afternoon. In many cases these are pleasures for some but an inconvenience for others. The occasion of your only daughter's wedding - whether you are "well-heeled" or not - usually brings out the best in a father. On this occasion the parents did do their best in a way which gave pleasure to more than 600 people, but unfortunately also upset a few.
The letters appear to be directed at the bride's father, a man for whom courtesy and consideration is always a strong point. The help this man quietly gives to a range of local organisations is worthy of note and there will certainly be no one more concerned if some people have been upset or inconvenienced by his efforts to provide his daughter with a memorable wedding day.
