SHE may have been wearing blue, but Her Majesty the Queen was tickled pink by her visit to Myerscough College near Preston.

Sporting a royal blue dress coat and matching hat the Queen, pictured, accompanied by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, stopped off at the Bilsborrow agricultural college to officially opened its new learning resource building.

The Fitzherbert-Brockholes Building, in which the Queen unveiled a commemorative plaque, houses a library, student services and support unit, computer facilies, and the Rural Business Centre. The Fitzherbert-Brockholes family, has been involved with the college for more than 50 years.

The Royals arrived at Myerscough by helicopter and enjoyed a short drive to the college - which she last visited in 1969 to open the centre.

Her Majesty was warmly welcomed by crowds waving Union Jack flags and civic dignitaries, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre, Coun and Mrs Harry Taylor, and college principal Professor John Moverley.

Brindle student Jean Jones, who was celebrating her 21st birthday, and Timothy Oakes from Kendal were presented to the Queen after receiving Duchy of Lancaster scholarships.

And first year student Samantha Mycock, of Poulton-le-Fylde, presented the Queen with a posy of flowers which she had carefully created.

The 40-minute visit followed the Royal Party's trip to Morecambe, where the Queen unveiled a statue of comic Eric Morecambe.
