LOCAL anglers are being welcomed down at a Chorley beauty spot - providing they do not step out of line.

North West Water says fishermen can take advantage of the well-stocked Lower Rivington Reservoir.

Managed as a coarse fishery, the reservoir contains perch, pike, tench, roach and bream - and some brown and rainbow trout.

Large stretches of the eastern shoreline are open to anglers, though there are also conservation areas where no casting is allowed.

NWW wildlife warden Ron Varey said: "We are always pleased to have anglers down at Lower Rivington Reservoir and as long as they follow a few simple fishing regulations, then everyone is happy. "The rules are there to benefit all and they allow anglers to enjoy their sport while at the same time the fish stock is protected, as is the wildlife generally in and around the reservoir.

"We have produced an information leaflet giving simple guidelines and that can be obtained free of charge from our Great House Barn information centre at Rivington."

Fishing is permitted any time between sunrise and sunset, with all anglers aged 12 and above needing a current Environment Agency rod licence.

Children under the age of 12 are allowed to fish if accompanied by a responsible adult who must hold a rod licence.

Spinning and fly fishing are strictly prohibited at the reservoir with neither live baiting or fish to be taken from the waters.

Anglers are also urged to do their utmost not to pollute the reservoir and make sure they do not leave unwanted tackle or litter behind.
