HIGH-flying aerospace company Hurel Dubois of Burnley today confirmed it has won a $50 million contract to supply thrust reversers for new Bombardier business jets - news that comes on the eve of major celebrations to mark the company's 10th anniversary in the town.

The announcement gives an even bigger boost to tomorrow's open day event at the 15-acre Bancroft Road site which the company took over from Lucas.

The major order from GKN/Westland has already brought new recruitment in Burnley, with a workforce now topping 630.

The thousands of visitors expected for a host of events tomorrow will also hear of other recent large orders including a contract for components for Embraer aircraft.

Another deal secured by Hurel's French parent firm for work on General Electric engines may bring additional work to the site.

"This is very good news for everyone we employ in Burnley and will certainly contribute to job security," said Hurel-Dubois UK commercial director Mike Maunder.

"Business is booming and the outlook is excellent," said a spokesman in Burnley today.

"There is a great deal to celebrate."

He added the new orders would protect and safeguard jobs at the plant.

Tomorrow's attractions include a fly past by a 40-year-old Hurel HD34 survey aircraft and the chance to win a special trip in the plane.

Personnel manager Steve Steinsberg said: "We want as many people as possible to come to our special celebrations.

"The plane is a symbol of the inspiration and innovation which has driven this company from the beginning and the fly past will make it an historic day."

Hurel in Burnley has an annual turnover of more than £60 million.
