A SECOND successive century for skipper Steve Harrison was the highlight of Rainford's sensational last-over victory over Litherland on Saturday.

Litherland elected to bat and proceeded to rattle up an impressive 218-6 on a dream batting wicket prepared by Ian Harrison and his staff of groundsmen as the home bowlers all toiled in the heat.

The star with the ball for Rainford was Anthony Poynton who returned for his first game of the season and was full value for his 4-50 while Corden was the only other bowler to taste success with 2-48.

Left with a maximum 43 overs, the reply survived the early loss of Dalrymple as Robinson and Howard took control. Robinson was the main contributor in the early exchanges but holed out for a well struck 40 as the Litherland bowlers turned the screws. Harrison, meanwhile, had hobbled to the crease following his previous week's knee injury and had already posted an impressive half-century with some clubbing blows before a glut of wickets left Rainford wobbling at 155-5 with just 10 overs remaining.

Phil Corden then joined Harrison at the crease and the two players treated the expectant crowd to a batting exhibition. Corden finished unbeaten on 30 while Harrison's unbeaten 102 led Rainford to a breathtaking victory with five balls to spare.

Match ball sponsor was D Rigby Joinery.

The second eleven scored an impressive 10-wicket success over Litherland. Litherland were bundled out for just 116 as Welding led the way with a five-wicket haul ably supported by Atherton and Harrison. Openers Williams and Maddison both scored half centuries as Rainford eased to maximum points.
