RAINFORD'S Steve Birchall was on target to win St Helens Archery Club's Annual Handicap Shield. In a closely fought contest, where the scratch score is 1440, Steve's 1484 points saw off a strong challenge by runner-up Donna Banks of West Derby who finished on 1453. Steve had given notice of intent by previously winning the June Handicap medal. Donna had a very satisfying consolation prize in winning the shield for best Compound Bow score without handicap since she opted to shoot with the men at their 90 metres range and beat them all. Highest Recurve Bow score without handicap was won by club secretary Geoff Burrell, of Eccleston.
