MUSIC and games are banned at a new look Tyldesley pub.

But good beer and good grub are definitely on the menu at the new-look George and Dragon say new owners Wetherspoon.

After a near half-million pound refit the George and Dragon this week re-opened in Tyldesley town centre.

Wetherspoon, the Watford based pub chain with over 300 pubs nationwide, has spent two months and £475,000 refitting the town's biggest pub.

A company spokesman said: "We're not condemning pubs which have games and music but we chose to offer something different.

"Our pubs are places where people can have a chat, drink and a meal. Customers represent a cross section of the community.

"They are free houses which offer an ever changing range of great beers. CAMRA think we are a good bunch."

The George and Dragon will be managed by John Williamson and Kathrine Jenkins and staff includes a further 11 full and part-timers.

Music, pool, darts, dominoes and card games are banned and a quarter of the pub will be a no-smoking area. The George and Dragon is wheelchair accessible with a specially adapted toilet for customers with disabilities.

Kathrine Jenkins said: "We are confident people will like the new look.

"We believe it will appeal to a wide range of people who enjoy a drink or meal in quiet and comfortable surroundings."
