A FORMER Heaton Park CP School pupil has died in a accident while serving in Kosovo.
Daniel Holt , who served with the King's Royal Hussars, was taking part in a routine patrol north of the capital Pristina last Friday, July 23, with two other officers when the vehicle he was in swerved to avoid a dog.
It rolled down an embankment and the 19-year-old suffered massive brain injuries.
A team of paramedics from the UK flew Daniel to the Royal Naval Hospital in Gosport, and his mum, Anne Marie, took the decision on Saturday to turn off his life support. She gave permission for his organs to be removed for transplant.
Daniel lived in Polefield Circle, Prestwich, and moved to Wigan six years ago with his mum, dad, David, and sister, Laura. He still has family living in Prestwich.
A former member of the Army Cadet Force, he joined the King's Royal Hussars two years ago and had been serving in Kosovo for several months.
The funeral will take place on Tuesday, August 3, at St Peter's Church in Hindley, Wigan.
