ST HELENS Council is set to announce more local nature reserves as part of a strategy of improving access to nature on people's doorsteps.
Clinkham Wood Community Woodland, Thatto Heath Meadows and Siding Lane Nature Area are the first to be designated as part of a 10-year programme.
Local nature reserves provide a haven for wildlife while encouraging community awareness and environmental education. The borough currently has one nature reserve - Stanley Bank in Blackbrook - covering 27 hectares which includes our only Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSS) Stanley Bank Meadow, a damp, unimproved neutral grassland, a rare habitat on Merseyside.
