A POLICE officer has been suspended from firearms duty after a gun was accidentally fired at the floor in Rawtenstall police station.
No-one was injured in the incident.
Armed officers were at Rawtenstall last Tuesday to hunt for three men believed to be armed and dangerous, after an assault in Haslingden.
Chief inspector Neil Walsh, senior investigating officer at Lancashire Constabulary's discipline and complaints branch, said the officers were on stand-by.
"While they were in the station there was an accidental discharge of one of the handguns. The officer has been suspended from holding firearms authorisation pending my inquiry."
