SURGEONS amputated the left foot of Bacup youngster Lisa Edmondson after her leg was crushed by a bus as she crossed a busy road.
Lisa, nine, was rushed to Withington Hospital, Manchester, following the incident in Todmorden Road, near the junction with Yorkshire Street, left, on Saturday afternoon.
Police said the youngster was crossing the road when he attention was diverted by a friend calling out to her.
She looked back but continued walking - into the path of a slow-moving First Manchester bus, driven by Mohammed Qureshi, 39, of Bury.
Lisa, of Springfield Avenue, Bacup, was taken by ambulance to Withington hospital for emergency surgery.
A hospital spokesman said the injuries were so serious, there was no option but to amputate the foot.
Lisa's condition in hospital today was "comfortable".
