THE earth moved in Burnley's Queens Park in a weekend festival of rock, blues and brass.

It was second year lucky for the Bands in the Park event as Burnley Mechanics organisers again chose a scorching two days for the free spectaculars.

Around 6,000 flocked to the park over the weekend, 1,800 coming out for Saturday's brass concerts, featuring Burnley Junior Alliance, Nelson Brass and Todmorden bands - as well as free tea and biscuits for supporters.

Sunday saw the park bounce to heavier music as crowds were welcomed by brilliant sunshine.

Last year the event, costing £3,000 to stage, was supported by Euro funding, this time the Mechanics team found the sponsorship for the popular show.

Eight local and visiting bands were booked for the bandstand event, with last year's stars, The Rubbish headlining at this year's show.

Mechanics Leisure in Burnley spokesman Jon Yull said the weekend had proved even better than last year's inaugural event, but it had still to be decided whether the show will go on again next summer.

"It has been a tremendous event, we couldn't really have hoped for more support."
