REGARDING your report (LET, July 28) about senior citizens taking a petition to Downing Street, calling for a basic weekly payment of £75, I would like to see the powers that be trying to live on this small amount.

These pensioners have worked hard all their lives to have a decent retirement and this is how they are repaid - with a small pension to live on.

I think it is time the Government had someone with a few brains to help our pensioners. Talk is all we hear. They should do something and do it now.

So, come on, you pensioners demand your rights - £100 a week is what they need to live on.
