THE annual One Hundred mile time trial promoted by the Cleveleys Road Club was held on Sunday in very hot weather conditions with a good number of the 70 starters being affected by the high temperatures and failing to finish.

Of the 50 or so that did complete the distance, the fastest time was recorded by Henry Iddon of the Cycling Club of Lancashire - which is sponsored by Barkers Primrose Nurseries, Clitheroe - with a time of 4hrs 0mins 35secs which was an excellent performance on the day.

The North Lancashire Road Club were worthy winners of the team award with Fraser Snape of Read finishing sixth in 4hrs 15mins 26secs, Neil Cooper of Darwen eighth in 4hrs 16mins 17secs and Dave Brown of Salesbury 10th in 4hrs 19mins 17secs a time which also gave him second veteran prize based on age standard behind the winner of this category, Bev Wood of the Preston Wheelers Club.

Other local riders times were Peter Haigh of Nelson Wheelers 4hrs 24mins 30secs, Graham Waddington of Pendle Forest 4hrs 31mins 22secs with a particularly fine ride by Sharon Padley of the Rossen- dale Road Club of 4hrs 48mins 04secs which was only a few seconds away from first ladies prize.

Steve Adair and Bob Jones, both of the North Lancs Road Club, finished in 5hrs 1min 54secs and 5hrs 2mins 53secs respectively.
