YET again, there are signs of arrogance in the actions of the ruling Labour group on Blackburn with Darwen Council.
We need to be concerned when its leader, Councillor Malcolm Doherty, assures us that changes to the board of directors that runs Blackburn buses needs no explanation (LET, July 21).
I'm sure Coun Doherty realises that the bus company does not belong to the Labour Party and he has overlooked the people of Blackburn and Darwen who elected the council to run their company.
So, like any other group of concerned shareholders of a million-pound business, they might be entitled to some account of why such wholesale changes in the board of directors was considered necessary.
Fortunately, the Liberal Democratic councillors were able to remind him that democracy and accountability is good for public relations.
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph does well to continue to focus on the way in which activities involving the Blackburn with Darwen Council give rise to concerns.
The citizens of this borough need the safeguards of a vigilant press and independent councillors to make transparent the actions of those who bear the responsibility of good government.
CHRIS THAYNE (Blackburn with Darwen Liberal Democrats), Woodlands Grove, Darwen.
