DOG rescue chief Joan Taylor has appealed to people not to litter the town with puppies!
The Burnley rescue group had its hands full over he past year finding homes for litters of unwanted pups, quite apart from the many grown dogs looking for a roof over their heads.
Said group chairman Joan: "One of our major messages is that responsible dog ownership and people who cannot look after puppies should not let their pets have litters."
She spoke as the local organisation held its annual show at Towneley, allowing pedigrees to mongrels the chance to have their day.
There was lots of support for the event, which featured a host of displays from sheepdog shows to exhibitions by Burmese carting dogs, as well as many stalls and display stands.
Joan also appealed for more people to come forward and join the rescue team and for short-term foster families to take care of strays until they are found permanent homes.
There was also a pat on the back for Burnley Council which cancelled its charge for the showground, allowing the group to raise more cash for its work throughout the year.
