RISING star Michael Hunt underlined his potential at the home of golf.
Hunt, 21, finished third in the David Leadbetter Prospects Tour event at St Andrews this week.
The Burnley GC second assistant shot an 83 in the first round but followed that up with an excellent 74.
"Conditions were very tough on the first day," he said.
"The wind was strong."
That third place should lift Hunt into the top 10 of the order of merit on the Prospects Tour, which is for amateurs between the ages of 18 and 21.
And the two-handicapper goes to the next event at Seaton Carew in September full of confidence.
"I want to bring my handicap down to one this year and next year I want to try and compete in some of the big amateur events."
Hunt has been selected for the ELGA side against North West Manchester at Accrington GC later this month.
