WOULD like to say how proud I was having the Royal Family visit Morecambe and Lancaster.
But it was with sadness and disgust that the new leadership of Lancaster City Council, the Morecambe Bay Independents, did not make sure that a representative of Lancaster's past heritage, The Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, be presented in the King's Own Regimental Chapel in the Priory when her Majesty the Queen attended a short service.
If it was possible I would like to see an informal function held at Lancaster Town Hall as a way of saying thank you to the officers and men of the King's Own regiment who over the years have brought nothing but honour to the city of Lancaster. There are still several hundred ex King's Own living in and around Lancaster.
Now you have the power Tricia, we will watch with interest how you use it and we look forward to Morecambe's continuing revival. Oh yes! One other thing. On September 3 there will be a service and a plaque laying ceremony by the Burma Star Association to the men who made the ultimate sacrifice.
It would be nice to see some of the city councillors there, showing respect to the men who did so much.
Mr T Tomlinson,
Portland Drive,
Morecambe.
