SUNDAY'S blazing heat didn't stop nearly 250 runners taking part in a charity race to raise money for Medicine and Chernobyl.

Men, women and children lined up at 10am outside the Welcome Tavern in Walton-le-Dale for the shorter course, a two-mile fun run.

First home was Richard Newton of the Preston Harriers, followed closely by David McCall of Red Rose Road Runners, while the first female to finish was Marianne Neale.

The 10km race for adults started an hour later and took runners down to the River Ribble, along the Boulevard and past the Continental Pub, over the footbridge near Broadgate, and back past the Capitol Centre.

First of the 162 runners to finish was Jason Parker of Preston Harriers who completed the course in 34 minutes 23 seconds, followed closely by Martin Coulthurst of Red Rose Road Runners.

The first female to finish was Susan Coulthurst, also of Red Rose Road Runners, who completed the course in 44 minutes, 10 seconds.
