A NASTY accident with a huge inflatable may have knocked Rock FM DJ Glen Hunt for six - but it gave is former colleague Rick Hoghton the chance of a busman's holiday.

Drivetime frontman Glen broke three bones in his ankle when he jumped onto the first inflatable obstacle in the first round of a charity It's A Knockout competition.

The injury was so severe that surgeons had to fit metal plates into his ankle to help it heal.

Although the brave presenter - who will launch his column in the Citizen next month - wanted to continue to broadcast his show, doctors have told him to take time off to recuperate.

Meanwhile ex-Rock FM DJ Rick Hoghton, pictured, had popped in to see his former colleagues at the station's Preston studios - who immediately asked him if he'd like to stay a while. . .

Rick, who lives in Dubai, was visiting Preston during his holiday in England.

But he was keen to get back behind the Rock FM microphone and say hello to the station's listeners.

Managing director of the station Michelle Surrell said: "Glen broke his ankle on the first obstacle of the first round of It's A Knockout, which he was pretty upset about.

"He has had an operation to mend his ankle but is still in hospital recovering.

"We were thrilled to welcome Rick back to cover for Glen and I think he's quite enjoying it because he's still very popular with listeners."

Despite Glen's premature exit from the It's A Knockout event - which was backed by the Citizen - organisers hope to have raised around £20,000 for the Help a Local Child charity.

The cash will be distributed to community charities to help disadvantaged youngsters.
