RAINFORD'S recent run of success ended on Saturday at the hands of title holders Mawdesley.
Rainford were restricted to 171-8 due to tight bowling from Cottam and Moulton.
Andy Robinson scored a quickfire 29 but the anchor was dropped by Mike Cook who returned to form with 65. In reply Mawdesley accumulated runs quickly and were only halted when Robinson abandoned the pads in favour of the ball.
The crowd were still buzzing with this unusual manoeuvre when Robinson's first ball removed Rotherham's middle stump.
Despite the young Australian's return of 4-35 Mawdesley passed the Rainford total for the loss of seven wickets with 11 balls to spare.

Meanwhile the reverse fixture between the Second XI's at Mawdesley produced an almost identical result. Rainford also batted first and the innings ended on 171-9. John Williams continued his fine run of form with a well made 66, Chris Welding hammered an excellent 57. The innings petered out, however, falling short of maximum batting points by four runs.
The Mawdesley outfit then proved too strong passing the Rainford total for the loss of only four wickets with Bob Dickinson hitting an unbeaten 88.
