NOW alcohol has been banned on Blackpool beach, pop is the obvious replacement. But on Wednesday (August 4) it wasn't the soft drink variety sunbathers were interested in but the pop stars.
As the Radio One Roadshow made its annual stop in Blackpool, the sun just managed to squeeze through the clouds and Michie One, Dina Carroll and Adam Rickett were the order of the day.
Radio One DJ's Dave Pearce and Emma B burst on to the stage dressed for a day at the seaside - Dave in his shorts and Emma in sassy pink top and cowboy hat to the delight of the huge crowd.
Michie One was up first, treating the crowds to a sparkly blue jumpsuit and, despite losing her voice the previous night, still sounded pretty good.
Diva Dina Carroll swept on stage next, dressed in slinky black and looking and sounding fabulous.
Adam Rickett fans in Blackpool had a ball this week as the star singer has appeared twice, also playing at the Live & Kicking Roadshow. His performance predictably brought the biggest cheer of the day from hundreds of besotted female fans.
Young hopefuls Ryan Shaw and Wez Irwin also attended the roadshow, taking positive steps towards their dream of spinning the discs as top flight club DJ's of the future.
The potential high-fliers were given backstage passes to allow them an insiders glimpse at the music industry.
Both are members of a DJ Scheme which forms part of the Grange Park Young Eagles, a venture designed to improve the self-image of young people on the estate.
Ryan, 16, and Wez, 18, were joined by John Waring, co-ordinator of the Grange Park DJ scheme, on their trip and said they were having a great time watching the stars do their bit. Look out for Wez at Insomnia, Blackpool, in the near future.
