ONLY five months remain before recruitment to the International Breast Cancer Intervention Study (IBIS) ends.
The trial is seeking to find out whether the drug tamoxifen, which has been so successful in treating the condition, can also prevent it in women at high risk.
So far we have recruited more than 5,500 women, but need to recruit a further 1,500 to ensure the best results.
To take part in the IBIS study you should be at least 35 years old. Most of those recruited will have a strong family history (typically a mother or sister who developed breast cancer before the age of 50, or at least two close blood relatives who have the disease).
Contact the Study Co-ordinator, IBIS, PO Box 123, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3PX, tel: (0171) 269 3151. Or e-mail c.o'neill@icrf.icnet.uk or visit our website - http://www.icnet.uk/research/studies/ibis/ibis.html.
