HAYDOCK'S first and second teams earned good victories over St Phillips and Southport College, in the Southport and district league.
The first team had the easiest of wins. Having been invited to bat Haydock openers took full advantage of some non descript bowling. Craig Gardinier was simply outstanding, despatching the ball to all parts of the ground for a magnificent 122.
His partner, Rob Burke, made a fine 38 in an innings full of his usual quality as Haydock declared on 200-4. In reply the St Phillips batsmen struggled from the start Adrian Barr now recovered from his recent injury bowled with good pace taking 2-18, while Dave Jones tied the batsmen in knots and was rewarded with 3-20. Ian Brown provided some quality turn taking 2-40 as St Phillips were bowled out for 159 giving Haydock the points.
The second team also enjoyed a good win as they entertained St Phillips seconds at Lyme Park on what turned out to be a batsmans paradise.
The visitors chose to bat first and soon found the gaps on a lightning outfield. A Winfrey 65 was in good nick as was A Burke 67 not out, M Reading worked hard for his 41 as St Phillips took 50 overs and declared on 210-4.
It was hard work for the bowlers on a hot day Paul Johnson was the pick with 1-32.
Haydock's reply was very positive as their batsmen took full advantage of the fine batting trac. Scott Pickavance and Chris Nuttall were at the heart of the Haydock attack and both were in fine form.
Nuttall produced some top quality crickets shots which simply raced to the boundary as Chris rattled up a marvellous 67. Scott Pickavance was also among the runs, he showed his skill with the bat as he plundered the bowling with a mixture of some hard hitting shots and some deft touches he finished unbeaten on 69. Chris Carlisle 17 and Shaun Lathom 14 not out sampled the atmosphere as Haydock reached 214-4 and a six-wicket win.
