ALISTAIR Cooke's Letter From America (BBC Radio Four, July 20) confirmed what many people had long suspected - that NATO's bombing of Serbia was a disaster.
A team of specialists has been sent to the Balkans from Britain to assess the danger from radioactive releases occasioned by NATO's bombs.
As the radioactive material will eventually be blown all over the earth, it is certain many thousands of deaths from cancer will result from this.
Moreover, diesel oil was released in huge quantities from these bombs, contaminating large areas of Serbia and Bulgaria.
Far from reducing the incidence of ethnic cleansing, experienced observers believe haphazard bombing has increased it.
These pundits estimate NATO's troops will have to stay in Kosovo for at least 50 years.
So not only will we be paying for this unnecessary war, but so will our children and some of our grandchildren.
And what exactly has it all achieved? Nothing.
