STAR centre Alan Hadcroft will miss the rest of Leigh's push for the Super League.
Hadcroft went into hospital last week for a double hernia operation and is likely to play no further part in the season.
He has been troubled by the injury for several weeks but Leigh had hoped they could nurse him through the rest of the league programme and the play-offs. But the 22-year-old, who has made 23 appearances this season, has finally broken down.
"It's a decision we've made reluctantly," said coach Ian Millward. "But it's one we couldn't put off any longer.
"Alan's not been able to train properly for a few weeks and he was in constant pain. It had got to a stage where his general health was starting to suffer.
"I don't think he'll be able to figure again before next season."
