BURY'S proud Lancashire and Royal Regiment of Fusilier veterans gathered on Sunday (Aug 1) during the annual Minden Gala to honour those who fell at Minden nearly 250 years ago during the annual Minden Gala.
The LFs wore their traditional red and yellow roses, and stood as a service was conducted by a former member of the fusiliers, the Reverend Bill Martin, at Wellington Barracks, the home of the Lancashire Fusiliers.
Each year a wreath is laid at the cenotaph to mark the battle of August 1, 1759 which took place in the small German town of Minden and cost the lives of 17 officers and 314 men of XXth Foot Regiment, later to become known as the Lancashire Fusiliers.
For its services at Minden, the Fusilier Regiment was honoured by the laurel wreath being placed on its colours and appointments and received the battle honour Minden.
Major John Hallam commented: "We hold a service every Sunday closest to the date of the battle in memory of those who fought and fell."
