JOHN Lund has booked a place in the World F1 Stock Car Final after his best result of the year.
The Rimington farmer finished second to reigning champion Frankie Wainman junior in the first semi-final at Northampton on Sunday.
The result guarantees Lund a place on the second row of the grid in September's big race at Coventry - right behind Wainman.
ROSSENDALE rallyman Mick Farrer made up a remarkable 46 places during the Promenade Stages at New Brighton.
Seeded down at 74, Farrer and co-driver Damian Fletcher finished the all-Tarmac event 28th overall and 10th in class.
"Engine modifications by Colin Brennan and Nick Smith proved their worth on New Brighton's long straights," said Farrer, who drives a Ford Escort MkII.
"Considering the top 20 were mainly four-wheel-drive, I reckon it was an excellent result."
Next event for the pairing is at Ty Croes on August 15.
FIESTA XR2 Challenge leader Richard Casey took a win and a second place in the latest 'double header' round at Ty Croes.
Casey, from Whalley, finished second in the opening 18-lap race behind rival Wayne Stockton, but reversed the results in the second heat.
OVER 150 of the country's top hillclimbers are heading for Harewood tomorrow to torture rubber on the longest course in mainland Britain.

PEMBREY, Mallory Park and Croix-en-Ternois, France, were all on Dave Holden's route map last month.
And the Blackburn sidecar ace came away with a first and second at Pembrey's British ACU meeting, four third places in France and a double victory at Mallory.
As a result, Holden and passenger Ben Birchall are lying second overall in the EMRA championship, and fourth overall in the British Motorcycle Club series, on their Ireson Yamaha 700.
The pair are competing again this weekend in the prestigious Stan Cooper Memorial meeting at Darley Moor, Derbyshire.
