AFTER Crimewatch, Vehicle Watch, Business Watch, Neighbourhood Watch, DSS Snoopers Watch, CCTV Camera Watch and Helicopter Watch, we are now to have Breath Test Watch. As a staunch teetotaller, I am bemused and confused by the latest police brainwave operation 'Shop A Drink Driver' (LET, August 4).
The long-suffering, unpaid public are once again being expected to do the work of our vastly overpaid and underworked police.
This once great, now crime-infested country is in great danger of turning into a police state.
Gross violations and infringements of civil and human rights will be commonplace, with the police sanctioning a car drinkers, snoopers' charter.
The police, without any evidence of any crime having been committed, have the power to stop and breathalyse any driver (teetotallers and all) at any time, any place, anywhere - and this is supposed to be a free country.
The Lancashire public are not laundries doing the police's dirty washing.
