NOMINATIONS for the local 'Oscars' have been announced and a Bacup society looks set to sweep the board for the second year running when the prestigious prizes are awarded in September.
Bacup AODS' acclaimed production of 'The King and I' has won seven nominations for NODA awards in East Lancashire, including best actor, best artistic direction, best choreography and best stage design. The Bacup society members are hoping to repeat last year's success when they took home a cabinet full of trophies for their show 'Hot Mikado' from the annual ceremony at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Clayton-le-Moors.
Other musicals which have won plaudits include CHINA's repeat production of 'La Cage Aux Folles,' performed in Accrington, Clitheroe Parish Church AOS' 'Carousel' and Accrington Theatre Group's 'South Pacific,' which have all received four nominations each.
Todmorden AODS' play 'Noises Off' and Blackburn Drama Club's play 'Jekyll and Hyde' are also level with four nominations. Prizes, including the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's Curtainraiser Award, will be awarded on Friday, September 10.
