A TEENAGER left with horrific scars by a vicious assault while he holidayed in Corfu still does not know if his alleged attacker will be brought to justice.
Brennan Clemance, 18, was attacked with a broken bottle by a British man outside a nightclub in Kavos, Corfu, and needed hundreds of stitches to his chest, throat and face.
Brennan, of Surrey Road, Blackburn, endured five hours of surgery to reconstruct his slashed face.
Although he was told the British police arrested and interviewed a man in connection with the assault a month ago, no-one can tell him what has happened since. His mother, Linda Clemance, has contacted the Foreign Office, Interpol, Blackburn police, the British Consulate in Corfu, Home Secretary Jack Straw and several other agencies but can learn nothing more.
Mrs Clemance said: "I thought it had all been passed to the British police, but it turns out it is still with the Greek police. They won't give us any information until it's been processed by their department of prosecution.
"I don't know if this man's still running around or if he's in custody. He might have done things like this before. He might just have disappeared. We can't find out anything. I just want to see him brought to justice." Mark Rushton, who was holidaying in Corfu, witnessed the attack and took Brennan to hospital, but was also unable to find out what action police were taking. He got in touch with the Lancashire Evening Telegraph after reading about Brennan on our internet site and said he wanted to help police, but did not know where to turn.
Mr Rushton, of Wolverhampton, said: "We tried to speak to the police in Greece but the Club 18-30 holiday rep told us the Greek police would just put it down to British lager louts fighting among themselves and that we couldn't make a statement.
"I really want to help and I have been trying to find out what happened to Brennan since I returned from holiday. I want to make a statement, but I can't find out where to go."
Mrs Clemance said she hoped to arrange through Blackburn police for Mr Rushton to make a statement, which can be passed through Interpol to the Greek prosecution department.
Brennan has now returned to work at Champion Mouldings, Blackburn, but faces more surgery on his mouth and chest in the next seven months.
He was shocked to discover that, despite having Co-op Travel holiday insurance which will pay his medical costs, he will receive no compensation for his injuries.
A spokeswoman for Co-op Travel said he would only be entitled to compensation if he had been disabled or killed. She said: "Each member of the group signed the booking authorisation forms stating they agreed with the terms and conditions of the policy. In the case of someone injured in an attack, people should claim compensation from those responsible."
The Criminal Injuries Board will also not pay compensation as the attack happened outside Britain.
