CRICKET: The final of the Hyndburn Mayoral Challenge Six-A-Side Preliminary competition will be between the Griffin's Head and Accrington and District League leaders Attock on Friday at Accrington CC.
Griffin, an unknown quantity before the competition began, had an easy victory over Taverners B who were always struggling after the early loss of Mark Maden for six. Jack Taylor top scored with 22, but a devastating spell of 3-4 by Dave Parsons reduced Taverners to 60 all out in the eighth over, Harold Newton hitting 10 as last man.
Parsons (22 not out) and Andy McNicholas (29 not out) took Robin Foster's men into the final after Mark Maden had dismissed Nick Whittaker without scoring. Attock's match was much closer with the game going to the final over. Liquat Khan hit 56 for Attock, who totalled 118-5 in their 10 overs. Supreme Frames replied with 30 runs off the first two overs.
After losing openers Waqas Ali for 15 and Khizer Rehman for 29, the match swung Attock's way. Asim Hussain top scored with 35 for Supreme as they were dismissed for 110 in the final over. During Friday's final there will again be a collection for the Mayoral Charity Fund. Brian Rutter and Carl Sudworth will umpire the match.
Results - Semi-finals: Attock 118-5, Supreme Frames 110; Taverners B 60, Griffin's Head 61-1.
