A RECORD number of 44 awards were presented to members of Blackburn Road Runners when they held their biannual presentation at the Butlers Arms, Pleasington.
Commemorative certificates were won by 24 members who beat target times for distances between five miles and marathon. Two athletes reached the highest 'diamond' standard for the first time in their careers, a level reached only by three runners in the previous nine years.
Norma Smith in the L50 class ran the Wilmslow Half Marathon in 1:49.18 and M45 Mick Nester completed 10K in 33.57, 10 miles in 57.41 and a half marathon in 1:17.49. Along with Madeline Haworth, Fran Finnerty and Tony Martin, Norma and Mick also completed standards in four of the five distances to pick up special awards.
