IN OTHER events across the country a number of first-class performances have been recorded by East Lancashire riders over the past weekend.
Joanne Kembery who comes from Blackburn, but now lives in Cheltenham, pulled off a brilliant ride in the 48-mile Merseyside Ladies Cycling Association Road Race, near Ormskirk, when she held on to a precious five-second lead between herself and a top class field in the BCF Womens National Series event.
Further north at Cumdivock near Carlisle, Blackburn and District CTC's Dave Ebbrell claimed third place in a 70-mile road race behind winner Will Wright of Manchester. In Veterans Road Racing Blackburn's Dave Hargreaves of the North Lancs RC finished an outstanding second to Yorkshire's regular winner Ken Cowdell after nine laps of a five mile circuit near Hartside in the Pennines.
Meanwhile on Sunday Preston-based Gethin Butler of the Mens Help team rode a magnificent race to win the National 12 hour Championship in the Midlands with an incredible 297.4 miles. This was just over two miles too good for rival Kevin Dawson from Doncaster and only a fraction short of 300 miles which would have given Gethin a 25 mile per hour ride for the half day's distance.
