KEN Taylor's victory in the M50 division at the Crow Hill Fell Race at Mytholmroyd has kept him on course to win his age group in the South Pennine Grand Prix.
Ken - pictured above - finished 18th overall in the race, completing the five miles in 34.10. He was also third counter in the winning Rossendale team which included Gary Sumner (5th) and Steve Hoyle (17th).
In an excellent showing by the club, Chris White was first junior, Pete Jepson third M50 and Jean Rawlinson second L40 behind Todmorden's Sue Becconsall. Taylor then ran in the 17 mile Borrowdale Fell Race, which was the fifth round of the British Championship. Kieran Carr of Clayton was the best of our local M50s, this time taking third in class in 3:25.43, but that was less than a minute ahead of Barry Rawlinson of Rossendale who pipped Taylor by two seconds. Highest placed local was Dave Nuttall in 17th, with fellow Clayton Harriers Mike Wallis and Bev McWade fifth M40 and 10th lady respectively.
There was more success for Clayton in the six mile New Wadsworth Village Fell Race. Vanessa Peacock was first lady in 53.22, Geoff Newsom was first M50 in 54.30 and John Barker's 59.40 won the M60 division. All the times are records as the course is new this year.
