HOUSEHOLDERS involved in a pioneering recycling scheme in Pendle will be given more information about the project during events in their areas over the coming fortnight.
Waste management staff will be on hand to answer questions about the REAP (Recycling Environmental Action in Pendle) scheme being introduced on a trial basis in 2,000 homes in Earby and Reedley. Householders will be given different coloured refuse sacks to collect cans and paper in and compost bins to recycle biodegradable waste.
The scheme is one of the first community-based waste management projects in the country to be funded from landfill tax cash.
There will be demonstrations of how the scheme will work at New Road Community Centre, Earby, on Saturday and Reedley Primary School on August 21, both between 8.30am and 11am. and households will get their bins and sacks around the same time.
