HAVING returned to Bury for the first time since 1980, I am staying with friends in Ainsworth Road and have been amazed at the changes in the area. Sad to report, it is all downhill!
What used to be a nice residential area now looks like an industrial area. It is dominated by a chemical cement works, with the "bleep bleep" of a fork lift truck irritating the residents from morning until night, seven days a week, and heavy lorries holding up the traffic while they back into the yard several times a day. I can't believe the council can let this state of affairs go on and still charge such high council tax.
The roads and pavements must be the worst in the town and don't seem to have been touched since I was last here in 1980, except for some "dig up and fill in" maintenance. I would think the re sidents have a good case against the council for damages for stress, noise and pollution.
I will be glad to go home for some peace and quite!
